Operations were given the new web servers a few weeks ago. They changed the root passwords last week. Already, they have proven themselves incapable of following clear, English language backup procedures I carefully wrote for them. In one ear and out the other? Just can't be fucked learning anything new? Forgot how to read?
In the weeks leading up to this point, me and The Hoon have actively encouraged them to test restoration from tape, and constantly invited them over to talk about anything they don't understand. We're not pricks about it, although it has been frustrating seeing the total lack of effort on the part of these guys.
The CIO was going off the other day because he did a weekends worth of work on the wiki, then when these jokers did a restore to a new VM host, the wiki only showed changes up 2 weeks before. Har har. Lame excuses were given which just served to demonstrate the complete lack of understanding these fools have about what is going on. They were guessing. I haven't heard what's going on over their side the last few days so we'll just have to wait and see how it pans out.
This seems to be the prevailing attitude for most of the people here, not just in I.T. either. Government employees, mate. Virtually impossible to fire, apparently. You can guess the rest...
Anyone want a job in operations? All you need is the ability to think independently :-)
